How your marketing should work

Wondering why your marketing isn't working?

The solution might be something simple, like increasing the amount of mentions of your webpages across the internet.

This infographic called "How Inbound Marketing Works" shows the difference between Outbound Marketing and Inbound Marketing.  If you look at the different types of inbound marketing, you might find something you haven't tried doing yet for your business.

  • video marketing

  • press release marketing

  • tracking your website statistics to see HOW effective your marketing is - you do this on a regular basis to keep track -- right? If you don't, then you should start a.s.a.p.

Easy Simple SEO Part 3

In this edition of Your Biz Hot Tips, I show you Part 3 of Absolutely Easy Simple SEO

How to do Absolutely Easy Simple SEO Part 3 using backlinks

If you haven't seen the first two videos on how to use Easy Simple Seo for your website or blog, here are the link - Part 1 and Part 2. My idea is to show people the absolutely easiest way to do SEO by creating content (website pages and blog posts) by using the questions you are asked by potential customers.

In today's video, I'll show you some of the easiest ways to get links coming to your site (called "back-links") which tell the search engines that you website is worth visiting. If you're wondering what backlinks have to do with SEO, they are part of the "off page SEO" which is required to make sure your website or blog is recognized by the search engines.

If you search for "how to" information on search engines for "back-links", you'll no doubt be overwhelmed by the sheer number of ways to get them, create them, buy them, pay someone to make them for you. Some of these methods are good (known as "White Hat" or good techniques) and others are bad (known as "Black Hat" or bad techniques).

I will only show you White Hat techniques as none of us want to get banned from any major search engines, do we?

OK, here we go - some simple tips on how to use back-links for easy simple SEO

  1. if you have a Newsletter for your site, and you use my favourite newsletter software (Aweber), a new 'page' is created online on your Aweber account every time one is published. What this means is that if you put juicy links to your website pages or blog posts WITHIN the newsletter, they'll also appear on the Aweber version of your newsletter. Free back-links, and you didn't have to lift a finger :-)

  2. if you write a Press Release about something to do with your website or blog, you will usually be able to add two links to a website - so this is where you can add links to two different pages. The Press Release should always have a corresponding page which you've written on your website or blog, so one link should go to that page. The second link could be to your Newsletter sign-up page - or any other page or post of your choice. Again, you didn't have to do anything "extra" - by publishing a Press Release (weekly, fortnightly, monthly) you are creating links back to your website

  3. you have probably heard about "article marketing" and how this is a great way to get traffic. Well, yes and no. I suggest that instead of thinking about "traffic", think about "back-links" instead. If you don't know how to get started with writing an article, use my little tip - come up with 5 or 7 or 10 (or whatever) tips about something to do with your product or service; if the tips will help SOLVE A PROBLEM - all the better!  You will usually be able to add two links to a website (this differs from article site to article site), so if you have two links allowed - create a corresponding page on your website or blog (where you also post the contents of the Article) -- so one link should go to that page. The second link could be to your Newsletter sign-up page, or something else you'd like to provide as an "answer to a question or problem" - or any other page or post of your choice. Again, you didn't have to do anything "extra" - by publishing an Article (weekly, fortnightly, monthly) you are creating links back to your website.

  4. if you've ever read a book, then you're in for a treat with this tip! Make sure it's a book related to your website or blog, then go find that book on Amazon.com (or any other book distributor online). Scroll to the bottom of the page and search for "Review" - you'll find a place where you can provide a review of the book, saying what you liked or disliked etc, and guess what? You'll be able to put a link back to a page on your site - easy peasy!

These are only 4 of hundreds of possible ways to get links back to your website and blog pages, but I don't want to overwhelm you with too much info. If you've enjoyed these tips on my Easy Simple SEO, do share this info by Tweeting, on Facebook, Google + etc - many thanks in advance!

How to Add a New User in Wordpress

Wondering How to Add a New User?

If you use Wordpress.org for your website and/or blog, at some point you might want to know how to add a new User. This could be for many reasons, some of which are:

  • the current Editor of your site/blog has changed jobs, or left the company

  • you need help with the writing and/or editing, and would like your assistant to have their own login

  • your too busy to write the blog, and want to hand over the reigns but maintain the leadership as original Editor.

Accessing the USER Admin section

User button in left sidebar - How to add a new user in Wordpress (image)Depending on how your site/blog is set up, you may or man NOT be able to see the button for USERS in the left sidebar after you login.

If you CAN'T see this button, please contact your website developer (the person who set up the site) or your I.T. group (if they created the website), and (a) ask for access to the User button so you can add more Users, or (b) ask for a new User to be created.  Let's assume you do have access, for the purposes of this instruction.

  • login to the website, you will now be in the Dashboard (Admin) area

  • scroll down until you see the USERS button in the left sidebar, and click it

  • you will be presented with a screen which looks similar to this:

How to add a new user in Wordpress dashboard (image)

In the image above, you'll notice TWO major sections I've marked in red:

  1. please ensure you create a sensible USER NAME as this will appear on every blog post written by this new User

  2. you MUST set the "Role" to Editor so that this person can login to the Dashboard, and have the 'rights' to create blog posts

  3. if you are using a website or blog created by me for you and your company, this is ESSENTIAL, as other functionality depends on the Author being flagged as the "Editor".

The Administrator Role

If you are using a website or blog created by me for you and your company, I provide my details when I create the site/blog, so that I will receive all email notifications relating to the successful set up. This is also useful if you require me to login and help you at any time, make changes etc.

If at any time you prefer to assign a different person as 'Administrator', please feel free to do so - but remember the User name is permanent and cannot be changed. If you will need me to login at any time in the future, you will have to create a new User name and provide me with Admin Role access in order to make changes for you.

Recommendation: It's possible to create a second Administrator, which makes it easier than deleting the original and recreating a new Admin role.

"Our blog Author has left the company - what do we do now?"

This is a common issue and easy to solve:

  • create a NEW USER, or

  • EDIT that person's Editor account by changing the :

    • nickname

    • display name, and

    • email name.

- but IF YOU DO THIS BE WARNED - all blog posts written by that person will now have a NEW PERSON'S NAME AS THE AUTHOR.

I highly recommend you CREATE A NEW USER.

"What happens next?"

As soon as the NEW USER is created (and you've clicked the checkbox to send them their new login details), they'll receive an email. They can then login as the New User, and all new blog posts will be accredited with their name (whilst they are logged in as this User).

I hope this has been helpful - if you have any questions please do drop me a note in the Comments below or contact me via the Contact form on the site - OR - send me an audio or video question from this page:

--- TRANSCRIPT ---

  1. The absolutely simplest way to understand SEO with Teena Hughes
  2. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation (or Optimzation) depending on which side of the "pond" you're on
  3. So, SEO means, "Which words will someone search for?" The words people search for are known as KEYWORDS.
  4. Searching for a string of words in a row is called a 'long-tail keyword' phrase
  5. If someone wanted to find you online, your product or service, what WORDS would they type?
  6. More and more people are typing QUESTIONS as a search - so what are those questions?
  7. If you own a shoe store, some searches might be: where can I find red sandals in san francisco how much are red sandals in melbourne where can I find large red sandals in athens Starting to get the picture? The searches have more than 2 or 3 words in them - these are LONG-TAIL KEYWORD PHRASES and THIS is how you can start adding SEO to your website. Type QUESTIONS people are searching for.
  8. If you had a site about dog training: how do I stop my german shepherd biting how do I train my labrador to shake hands what can I do to stop my dog from barking So now you might be starting to see how important it is to use QUESTIONS and ANSWERS on your website ...
  9. If you had a site about tap-dancing monkeys: how do I get my monkey to wear a tutu how do I train my monkey to smile what can I do to stop my monkey from running around in class wearing tap shoes I included these questions above just in case you know someone with a tap-dancing monkey :-)
  10. If you had ANSWERS to these QUESTIONS on your website or blog, chances are those pages will APPEAR IN THE SEARCH RESULTS when someone types a similar question into a search engine. Now that sounds like a good idea, doesn't it?
  11. Many people will tell you how to: SEARCH for the best keywords USE the best keyword search tools FIND keywords with the BEST TRAFFIC CALCULATE how strong the keywords are. Forget all of that for now. The bottom line is, you CAN learn many SEO tactics, but I highly recommend STARTING SIMPLE, and doing something EASY.
  12. Over the next few days: WRITE DOWN as many questions as you can think of that people have asked about your products and services (check your email for ideas from questions via your website) PLAN to write a page or post about EACH question ADD these pages or posts to your website or blog.
  13. Don't overdo it. Start SIMPLE. Try with 3-5 QUESTIONS. Write the Question at the top of the page now write 3-5 paragraphs ABOUT that question, as an ANSWER. Feel proud that you've added NEW JUICY CONTENT to your site, which people will be searching for.
  14. That's your homework for today :-) In the next video, I'll show you HOW to turn those QUESTIONS (those long-tail keyword phrases) into juicy SEO food for search engine robots.
  15. See you in the next SIMPLE SEO video! Cheerio from Teena Hughes PS - if you haven't signed up for the YOUR BIZ HOT TIPS Newsletter, pop over to the site today! Get more great tips like this in your inbox!
